It's day three of the new year, and so far I can't complain. We welcomed 2009 with our friends, as always, though it was a lot of fun doing it in Monterey for the first time. The weather was perfect -- crisp and clear. Our hotel was right in the midst of their downtown event, giving us lots to see and do. The kids begged us to let them ice skate, but for whatever reason I couldn't bring myself to say yes. I think it's because deep down I knew that I'd pay $10 for my son to skate, and the first time he'd fall, he'd give up. I hope that someday he'll be the "pick yourself and dust yourself off" type, but at this point, he's not. After some thought, though, I decided that I'll let him try it the next time the opportunity presents itself. I hate to always be the mom who forever says no and doesn't let him try something new. Who knows -- maybe he'll surprise us all!
All three kids really enjoyed each other!
It's been a big movie week for us here. Yesterday I took the kids to see "Bedtime Stories," which we all wanted to see the very first time we caught a preview months ago. God bless Adam Sandler and his fun family values now that he's a dad. This movie is a great one for kids, and I didn't once feel like I had to explain anything to them. Unlike "Marley and Me," which we saw today. I didn't really have a problem with it, but at one point my son finally leaned over and asked, "Why do they use that word all the time," after he heard them say sex or sexy for the tenth time. I just explained that it's a grown up word and left it at that. I think he's on to it meaning something, but at seven, he's not quite ready to know what. Regardless, we all enjoyed the movie, and even my son cried with me at the end. Afterwards we grabbed dinner at one of our favorite little family places, where they make an amazing chicken apple walnut salad. I'm completely content this evening.
Happy New Year!!

Love, Mere
WHat a great New Year's and we saw Bedtime Stories too, cute and perfect for the family. The Tale of Desperaux was good too!
See you soon!
Love the pic of the three of you sitting on the bench!
Happy New Year to you too! Bob and I saw Marley and Laura and Gilbert took Matthew to Desperaux. After re-reading the book recently I knew that Marley wasn't going to be appropriate in some places, and the ending would be too much. So much of how Marley gets old and deaf and has hip problems reminded me of our Lukey dog ...
Oh no!!! Does something happen to the dog at the end??????? WTF? Have we learned nothing from Bambi???? I can't even take the Sylvan learning center commercials where the kid finally gets a good grade!
Gorgeous kids and the pictures aint bad, either!
