Conversation with my six year old son from my cell phone last night:
Him, answering: Who is this?
Me: It's Mommy
Him: Oh
Me: Is that how you answer the phone?
Him: What?
Me: You should be answering, "M- residence, C- speaking?"
Him: *pause* I don't even know what you're talking about!
Me: *sigh* Where's your Dad?
Him: I think he's in the garage
Me: What's he doing out there?
Him: I don't know
Me: Well, can you go and ask him, and tell him I'm on the phone?
*dead air for a while...sounds like the phone is hitting his leg as he walks*
Husband: Hello?
Me: Are you ready for how your son answered the phone?
Much laughter followed.
My son doesn't have true telephone experience, except for the random conversations with Gramma, and we're starting to realize it may be time to teach him phone etiquette. I was raised in a military household, and things were done a certain polite way. Here's hoping I can teach my kids the same skills. Otherwise, very soon, any one of you could be calling, only to be told that I'm naked in the bathroom, or some other such awkward thing.

I love kid/parent convos always entertaining. My kids are only allowed to answer the phone if it's Yaya (caller ID) otherwise I can imagine the convo...
"my dad's in the bathroom showering with my mom!"
"daaaaaad, your boss is on the phone!"
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Ooh, maybe I'll think twice about calling your house - there are just some things I don't need to know ;-)
My 6 year old has a tendency to say "Okay, bye!" whenever he gets tired of talking on the phone, doesn't matter to him that the other person is in the middle of a sentence or not. I guess he's practicing for telemarketers!
My nine year old STILL talks this way, drives me nuts although it IS humorous at times
